Hands in_DUSA

That’s right! The DUSA curriculum is now available for teachers, students, and players here in the U.S. Most of you are familiar with the Darfur United Soccer Academy (DUSA) program in eastern Chad. DUSA is up and running in refugee camp Djabal, and this December, it will expand to TWO more refugee camps. We’ll be training and hiring 8 more refugee coaches and reaching hundreds more children with soccer, health, and peace-building curriculum.

But here in the U.S., we’ve decided to share with you all what we’ve developed for refugee children – and we’ve called it Kicks & Hopes USA curriculumThe Kicks & Hope USA curriculum is a tool for PE teachers and coaches to demonstrate to students and players the impact of sport in other parts of the world, how children everywhere deserve the same right to play, and most importantly, to get students moving and playing!

Kicks & Hope USA
You can find the full curriculum guide online, but here’s a little insight:
Students are introduced to Darfur and what has happened in that region through the story of a young refugee girl named Guisma. Guisma has experienced unimaginable loss and hardship, and students are asked questions to reflect on Guisma and her story. The curriculum then provides videos of children participating in the Darfur United Soccer Academy. Guisma has joined DUSA in refugee camp Djabal. So after hearing her harrowing story, students will be able to see Guisma and other girls like her playing soccer for the first time! Next, the curriculum outlines a step by step guide for implementing an actual DUSA session, which includes a dynamic warm up, soccer drills that incorporate basic socio-emotional components, and 4v4 scrimmage.

We’ll be sharing this new curriculum with PE teachers and coaches. If you’d like to introduce soccer and the power of sport for refugee children to your school, soccer club, or community, please contact us! You can take the curriculum directly from online, or we can share hard copy curriculum materials with you. i-ACT staff is also ready to come to your school or team and give a presentation on the Darfur United Soccer Academy.

Take Action Now! Help us reach more children like Guisma. This December, we’ll be signing up as many players as we can in two more camps. Just $10 will sponsor a refugee player to join DUSA for one year. $10 will make a difference.
