iact rusa-car lockediACT is proud to announce our most recent expansion of the Darfur United Soccer Academy to the Refugees United Soccer Academy.

The Darfur United Soccer Academy is a comprehensive and replicable child development soccer program that trains and employs refugee men and women to provide a safe place for refugee children to learn soccer, health, and peacebuilding curriculum.

In the coming weeks, the iACT team will travel to refugee sites in Cameroon where new friends from the Central African Republic (CAR) have fled to for their safety. It will be the first of iACT’s soccer academies outside of Chad. To prepare we have updated our curriculum with our new logo and translated it into French. You can download it here.

As with the Darfuri refugees, iACT will work directly with the refugees from CAR to launch the program. Four coaches – two men and two women – will be selected to become leaders in their community and of the soccer program. Girls and boys ages 6 to 13 will be provided the opportunity to play, grow, and heal alongside their peers.

The Refugees United Soccer Academy’s (RUSA) objectives are to promote leadership, health, equality, and education. RUSA also serves as a way to connect the refugee children and youth with soccer players and clubs across the U.S. and globally – a vital connection for a group of people who feel isolated and forgotten.

If you are interested in becoming a Sister Club and connecting your soccer club to a Refugees United Soccer Academy, please contact iACT’s COO Katie-Jay Scott at ktj@iactivism.org.
