The Film

The feature length documentary, Darfur United: A Soccer Underdog Story, shows the improbable journey of an all-refugee team, from isolated camps on the edge of the Sahara, to participating in the Viva World Cup in Iraqi Kurdistan. The players, who were children when they experienced the destruction of their villages, the killing of family and friends, and harrowing walks across the desert, had been living in harsh refugee camps for nine years, forgotten by the world and with little hope for a future beyond the limits of what they call , “open prisons.” Through the power of the world’s most popular sport, “the beautiful game,” the players and the millions of people they represent were able to dream of new horizons and embark on a journey that would change their lives, forever.
