A constant in Chad throughout my now 13 trips is the “hurry up and wait” reality encountered at every step of the way.

If you’re coming here to get things done, you need to come prepared with vast amounts of ever flowing patience—that and a good book.

On this trip, I am reading In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler’s Berlin, by Erik Larson. I just started it, but it’s a true story about a new diplomat and his family living in Germany at the beginning of Hitler’s Nazi rule. How much of the future horrors could they see coming?

Peace,
Gabriel
