We’ve received an update from our four Darfur United Soccer Academy coaches. As of the beginning of this week, they’ve signed up 515 children for the Academy! So far, the gender break down is 385 boys and 130 girls, and the coaches reported, “we are still continuing to register more players, so we are so busy, because we need to manage them in groups and a scheduled time.” Over the next week, we’ll be getting more feedback from the coaches and using their reports to help us get ready for our next DU Soccer Academy.
Our GOAL is to open the second Academy in camp Goz Amer at the end of January 2014! Since Goz Amer is geographically near camp Djabal, we’re hoping to bring the four trained coaches from Djabal to help us recruit and train the Goz Amer men and women coaches. By bringing the Djabal coaches to Goz Amer, we’re seeking to develop more of the coaches’ sense of leadership and ownership, to allow for peer-to-peer training and learning, and to foster inter-camp collaboration and communication.
With more children continuing to sign up for the Academy in camp Djabal, and with our goal of launching another Academy in January, we’re still seeking more player sponsorships! So far you’ve helped us sponsor 896 boys and girls – let’s keep the momentum going. This holiday season help us reach 2,000.
