Someone asked me today how I came to work with Darfur United. My answer was simple, “I believe that soccer can change the world.”
My name is Margo Baker and currently, I reside in Chicago, IL, and serve as the Operations Manager for the women’s professional soccer team, The Chicago Red Stars. I also work as the Director of Programs and coach for Gonzo Soccer Academy.
The sport of soccer has played such a pivotal role in shaping who I am as a person. It taught me about leadership, teamwork, work ethic, and it helped build my self-confidence. On top of that, it allowed me to free myself from the worries of the world. For 90 minutes, I always found peace on the pitch – whether in youth soccer, club, or playing collegiately. When I was presented with the opportunity to work with the Darfur United Soccer Academy as a Coach Ambassador, to help provide peace through soccer, I immediately felt honored and grateful. I didn’t have to think twice.
I’m excited to be part of the team at DUSA and provide hope for something better. DUSA has already established such a great presence in the Darfuri community and I value the opportunity to build on that legacy, as well as to strengthen and develop those relationships.
