You never know when you’ll meet a wonderful human being. Well, I met one last night.
Meet Jack. He just turned nine years old, and the kid is already a leader in his community. For his 9th Birthday, he requested donations for the Darfur United Soccer Academy instead of presents for himself. And, when his Mom asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday, he responded “I just want to play with my friends”. Such a great response and so fitting to our mission. The joy and necessity of play is something we work hard to promote for the children in refugee camps. Jack just wants to play, and he’s helping refugee children in Eastern Chad do the same.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending Jack’s birthday party in Calabasas, California, where I got to meet the families who so kindly donated new and gently used equipment and money for the Darfur United Soccer Academy. I left the party with a car full of equipment. Everything from balls, pop up goals, pumps, cones and jerseys filled my trunk, back seat and front seat. Soon this soccer equipment will be filing up duffle bags! This fall we’ll be hand carrying all these donations to Eastern Chad, as we aim to open three more DU Soccer Academies!
We’re honored Jack chose to support DUSA. As a small token of our appreciation, we gave Jack some DU gear. He happily tried on the DU jersey and t-shirt. They were a bit big in size, but Jack assured me he’d grow into them. Can’t imagine what good he’ll be doing for his community when he can properly fit into his DU Jersey!!
